Supplying content.
Content is important, so we need it to be supplied in a specific manner.
How to supply your website content.
Your website content is the most crucial aspect of your website, so it needs to be supplied so we can understand it.
We would like all content shared as Google Doc files so the team can easily access the information (we will have to provide you with a link to the Google Project folder where you can create these documents).
Please supply all text content in the following format.
1. One Google Doc per website page.
Do not have multiple content pages on the same document, which can get confusing. Each page of your website should have a single Google Doc containing the content for that page, with an appropriate and easy-to-follow title for the document.
2. Using Headings correctly.
Each page should have one H1 heading. The other headings should be H2, H3, H4, H5, and H6, as appropriate.
For example:
This is the title of the page (H1)
This is the subtitle of the page (H2)

Please be mindful that although your content structure may be obvious to you, it might not be obvious to others. So, write straightforward, structured content that is easy to understand (this helps the search engines, too).
3. Links.
If you want to add specific links in your content to other site pages, depending on whether you have an existing site, you can do this in one of two ways.
If you have a current site, add the link to the live site page in the Google document with the correct anchor text:
- This is some text on your site here; this is a link with text that links to a current page on your live site that we can then easily reference as the link.
If you do not have a current live site to reference, annotate the link as follows:
- This is some text from your site; this is a link with the text [LINK TO PAGE XXXX].
Highlighting links this way means we can easily see what needs to link to what.
4. More complex content.
You may have tables, tabbed content, sliders or other types of content on your page.
Where it is impossible to replicate this in the document, simply annotate it with notes so the team can understand your thinking.
For example:
- [Insert this video here] – link to the video
- [This content needs to go into a table]
- [The content below needs to be split across three tabs]
- [We need to add the chart from page 13 of our 2024 annual report here; here is a link to the PDF file that contains the chart]
- [Insert our three most recent blog posts here with images and titles here]
Our team will treat anything IN RED as an instruction that can’t be replicated in the Google Doc.
Simple annotations help avoid lengthy conversations about content and save time.
You can also add comments to your content in Google Docs by going to Insert > Comment in the top menu and adding a comment like this.
5. Take your time with your content.
As it’s so important, content is worth the time to get it right.
We do not progress to design stages without content and urge our clients to correct the content to avoid doing things twice.
Google’s search algorithms are smart and complex, but if you do not optimise your content correctly and write in a manner that the search engines can understand, your pages simply will not rank.
Not sure what content you should be supplying?
Website content is different from content for printed marketing materials as SEO also has to be considered.
If you are having trouble determining exactly what content you should add to your site’s pages, let us know, and we can provide help and guidance.
